Is it dog friendly??
An Essential Part of our Bar Harbor TraditionWe always sit in the bar area in one of the cozy window booths for two, but it's never noisy. The warm pretzels, great clam chowder, and excellent steaks are all things we look forward to on our annual trip to Bar Harbor. Normally on Mt. Desert we'd order an Atlantic ale, but Jack Russel's brews are as good as their steaks. Or course, the fact we have a Jack Russel of our own doesn't hurt, and he's been thrilled to get the occasional tidbit when we get back. There's outdoor seating that allows dogs, by the way, so maybe he'll get to come along on a future trip.
MoreAbsolutely amazing! Had a lovely meal in Bar Harbor with new friends. Given fresh warm pretzels as an appetiser and then had a sublime ribeye steak which was perfectly cooked to order. Cocktails were fantastic. Can’t fault the food, service or location. If it wasn’t 3,000 miles from Scotland I’d be a regular.
MoreHad a lovely experience with my lady on our anniversary at Jack Russell's. Filet mignon was on point and the server, Michelle, was perfect!
MoreThe food is pretty good. Steak isn't too well done and the sides come out good. It's sometimes pretty crowded so maybe call before. Prices are definitely a little high. Not the cheapest or best food around.
MoreThe Food and service were amazing. Steaks and lobster were very flavorful. Drinks were very good as well. A stop here on my next trip to bar harbor is a must. Highly recommend!
MoreDecent house brewed beer, good food, reasonable prices for Bar Harbor, cozy pub atmosphere.
MoreSmall but great restaurant, within walking distance to our hotel. I had the "Lazy Lobster" and mom had a shrimp salad, everything was delicious. Our server was great and also made a decent martini.
MoreRenting a house in area nearby. Had some people and dogs there. So we got takeout. Great New York Strip. Delicious onion rings. Nice thin cut fries. Totally satisfying.
MoreThe service was great. The fresh warm pretzels as their opening with the fresh stone ground mustard was unexpected and delicious. Makes bread seem boring. I had the baked stuffed halibut which was amazing. My husband had the lazy lobster, which was delicious. The lobster stew, and the blueberry cobbler was fantastic! I would definitely recommend this place!
MoreLoved it. Service was excellent, clam chowder was pretty good. The girl got baked sampler (very good but light on lobster, as i expected) and i had the adabo burger. Both our long island iced teas were good as well.
MoreHaving a decent server can make/brake a restaurant meal. If you go, ask for another server than Michelle. She was inattentive & acted like we were a major inconvenience to her time away from her friends at the bar & her cell phone. Food is good. Appetizers run $8-40, burger $15 & up, entrees $30 & up. Baked seafood pletter had plenty of seafood along with potatoes & asparagus. Aside from the lousy service, a nice place to go for a meal & a drink.
MoreA little overpriced but decent food. The mojito was very good, they grow their own mint there. Very friendly staff.
MoreFood was hot & delicious. During our visit, we had a 7pm reservation, in spite of being grossly understaffed the crew did a terrific job.
MoreGreat food and great service. A little pricey but worth the visit.
The meal was fantastic. Meal alone is 5 🌟. The four star rating comes from a cramped feel (even though it was nice) and a wait staff that was unfortunately "phoning it in" the night we were there. I still totally recommend this place. Menu is great. I assume from the packed house our staff experience was rare, or maybe the food is so darn good (it is) folks just put up with it. So... uh... yeah.
MoreFred Flintstone would be proud.Being transplanted from the Midwest, still prefer steak over clams or lobsters. This steakhouse was minutes from my hotel in Bar Harbor Maine and was excellent. Chose their medium sized ribeye which was amazing. Cooked perfectly, juicy with little potatoes and asparagus. Attentive staff and I thought reasonably priced.
MoreAmazing dinner at a small, friendly and locally owned restaurant. Great cocktails and delicious steak!
MoreEnjoyed the surf and turf. Have fish, burgers, great deserts. Parking is in the back and a little far to walk from Bar Harbor down town. Cab is $5. Very friendly.
MoreAmazing. I have been coast to coast and every state except Alaska and Hawaii and by far best steak I've ever had! Coming back to Bar Harbor every year just to have steak at Jack Russell's. Server slash bartender Adam also made it a very enjoyable dinner
MoreFood was okay. Prices were high. Menu vs actual plate sitting in from of you was very different. Service was poor. Server forgot us more than once. Hostess seemed almost scared to seat us, as if it was a busy 5 star restaurant, but after entering I saw it was a shabby tavern. The website makes it seem like fine dining, but it is not. Very not. Though the clam chowder seemed house made, which was nice. I would skip this place.
MoreGreat place, food and beers we're good. Server was always prompt and courteous, being the only one serving that day.
MoreThe baked seafood platter with asparagus was fabulous and even better serves
Chicken marsala was delicious atmosphere was very nice and the wait staff was wonderful. It also didn't take us forever to get a table for 5 in their busy season which in this town is a real plus when some waits can be well over an hour.
MoreMy husband and I drove 4 hours toCome stay in bar harbor Maine. We came to this restaurant for dinner in which the website said it closed at 10pm, we called and asked the hostess Michelle who stayed 10 pm. We cameIn to eat at 845 and was told last call for drinks but they were done serving food! Very upsetting will never come back and will. It recommend
MoreMy friend and I went for early dinner. I like the surf and turf. However, My steak was unevenly cooked. I think the cook forgot to cover the steak to allow even cooking when someone wants medium well. Part of it was shoe leather while the other part was bloody. I have eaten here before with a mouth watering experience. I guess it was either an off day for the cook or first season of cooking. My friends meal was cold...probably waiting for mine to cook. The staff is very friendly and polite. I will try it again this winter.
MoreNice location with friendly personal. The ribeye was excellent. Good beer on tap and ocean view.
MoreMy family and I came up to Bar Harbor for the weekend from Cape Elizabeth, ME. We decided to try Jack Russell’s “steakhouse” for dinner. It was hands down one of the worst meals I’ve had in a long time, if not ever. Avoid this place!!!! Over priced and horrible quality food.
MoreExcellent food, server and service!! Definitely going back
Very good food. We had filet mignon, and crab cakes. Kids menu are an excellent deal. I recommend.
MoreExcellent. Try the seafood sampler. Drinks are great.
Excellent food . Dine here all by myself tonight. (Just opened up)
Great food, amazing service. Great view out on the law.
We arrived at 7pm without a reservation and were told the wait for the outside table would be 15 minutes. After 30 minutes the receptionist offered that we could place our order so there would be hardly any wait once we are seated. So we ordered. After 45 minutes another apology. The table would be ready in about a minute... after almost an hour she came with our order ready for take out!! At that point I lost my patience and a table was ready right away interesting enough. Actually only 3 tables were taken on the rooftop and the others empty. We had to place the order again and it arrived rather quickly. The food was cold and not tender so we did not even finish. The drinks arrived after we finished the food. Talking to the guests at the table next to us we found out that they had a similar experience and their food was as bad as ours. The waitress took 50% of the food but that left us still with an hour wait and a terrible dinner... Avoid this place and find another restaurant.
MoreThe waitress just seemed mad. Possibly evil.
Steak was perfectly cooked. Gorgonzola sauce was excellent. Bottle of Merlot. All was great.
MoreExcellent filet mignon. Great service. Very consistent. I don't leave reviews often and base reviews on 3 visits. Highly recommend.
MoreService was quite slow at first, took a very long time for our orders to be taken. The tenderloin wasnt very tender and the lazy lobster is way over priced for the amount you get. Be careful when it says market price, market price is no where near as expensive as this restaurant. Martinis are 12 bucks a piece, go elsewhere
MoreFood was delicious! Would return.
Awesome service. Soft pretzels instead of bread while you await your food was kinda nice. You gotta do Blueberry beer while in Maine. And our Baked Seafood combo was incredible and fresh.
MoreI was here on vacation and met a local couple in downtown Bar Harbor and I asked them what their favorite restaurants were. Jack Russell’s was one of three of their favorites. It is not a fancy restaurant, but it was a great meal. After a week in Bar Harbor, this was my favorite dinner. I had the surf and turf, lazy style, with local blueberry ale and blueberry cobbler dessert. Everything was perfect!
MoreKeagan was a fantastic server! Very friendly! Lobster was delicious along with asparagus-definitely a 5 star. Surf n turf steak was a 4. Wasn’t the best, but wasn’t terrible.
MoreSlow service and food not worth the price.
Been to Bar Harbor twice and are here four times. Service and food outstanding!
